We’re travelling again! Caught the ferry from Hook of Holland into Harwich & after a night in a pub car park for the price of a meal, made our way to Sandringham Royal Estate. The 8,000ha estate is personally owned by the monarch (not the Crown, as Buckingham Palace & Windsor Castle). Recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086 CE, it was bought by Edward VII in 1862 as a country retreat & inherited by Charles III upon the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022. We visited with friends after a picnic lunch. Sandringham House is the principal residence, which we viewed from the front (📷1) & back (📷2); you can also buy tickets to see some of the inside. In the stables a car collection included this 1937 Daimler Shooting Brake, with folding luncheon table in the back—royals apparently enjoy picnics too (📷3)! A stroll around the gardens (📷4) before returning to our own carriage (with folding luncheon table, naturally) for scones with lashings of clotted cream & jam.
