Growing up in Northern #Nigeria, I knew lots of kids of Lebanese heritage. I don't know their history but many had been in Nigeria for generations; they spoke better Hausa and Pidgin than me, but were never considered truly Nigerian. The best ones grew up and left.

The unspoken strength of countries like Britain and America is that you *can* become British, become American. We keep our best.

It hurts me that we take it for granted, and so many people want to get rid of it.
