@nprofile1q... Agreed. I got around this 95% of the time by using #homebrew (I'd previously never tried it on Linux, but it ships with #bluefin). I was fearful of the impact of a second package system, but it worked well and stayed out of the way of system conflicts by installing binaries under /home.
The other 5% was crazier things like Elastic Security that involved dumb things like monkeypatching binaries to work :(
I haven't used it for a spell, but I really liked Bluefin.
