A common complaint in the UK and probably elsewhere is how much these days comes from outside the UK. The result of an economic doctrine in the UK since the 1980s that we can’t make anything, we should be a service economy. UK manufacturing is too expensive they say. So how do Honda and other non UK owned firms make cars here?

Why does Germany still have VW, BMW and Mercedes in German ownership but every car plant in the UK is foreign owned?

Short term thinking, quick profit, asset stripping laid waste to UK manufacturing and much else.

We let the reins slip on on making things, so don’t complain when everything you buy comes from China.
