My father found these insects all clumped together on the flowers of my basil plant. He immediately tried to catch them, and when I asked what he was planning to do with them, he said he wanted to take care of them and keep them. He genuinely thought they were a species of stingless bee.
We already have bee hives in our backyard, so he got excited at the idea of adding a new species to the collection.

But... I got a little suspicious because of the way these insects were behaving. It was kinda weird for them to clump up together... If a queen bee was there, there should be more of them in there. So, as usual, I took a photo of them and did a quick Google search.

Tantadadaaan! Turns out they weren't stingless bees at all. 🤣

They were a group of male "Bactrocera philippinensis"... or maybe "Bactrocera dorsalis". Fruit flies. Pests. 😅🤣

Imagine if I hadn't looked them up. My father would've been lovingly raising a colony of crop-destroying fruit flies instead of bees. 😂
