Architecture is a reflection of needs and new standards (functionality, light management, materials, etc.). What is considered beautiful has also changed over time.

Nowadays we have opinions. In the past they had conviction/ideals/visions to build buildings which they won’t see finished in their life time, but make it for generations to come. Very strong when you think about it.
