If you created a simulation with conscious entities populating your universe... what would be the purpose?

What would you have them do and why?

Maybe it's all for research. Just to see if they could.

Maybe it's an escape. Entertainment?

I doubt anyone would get mad and threaten the entities for not performing correctly. That would be ridiculous. Unless it was all just part of the experiment.

In computers we have virtual machines running complete operating systems like Windows or Linux inside a simulator. The apps running inside will typically never even notice, but some specially gifted viruses will recognize they are running inside the simulation and be able to break out to infect the ...
