@Deborah Makarios My grandmother had a wringer washer which terrified me as a small child, fear of getting my fingers or arm caught in it.
@Randal I find manually operated machinery much less scary in that regard than powered machinery. I used to worry I'd accidentally sew over my fingers with the electric sewing machine, but not with the hand-crank I currently use.
