From a Rothbardian, Austrian perspective. Rothbard explicitly called Van Buren probably the best American president. Created the Independent Treasury, separating the federal government from the banking system and refused to bail out or intervene in the economy during the Panic of 1837. Hard money advocated, opposed a new national bank, and continued much of the Jacksonian program.
