the thing is is that the better chain in the long term may not win. I'd love to see hamilton make this bet if bip110 was the current implementation and he was advocating to change to core v30+
Core 30 isn’t a consensus change from 29 so why would there be a need to justify anything. Bip110 changes consensus and if you want to change consensus you should put some skin in the game or you are a coward who can be ignored.
