Honestly the algorithm pick was the easy part. He’ll get his answer off the next Testnet4 block today, roll out the code, and try to launch the new chain.
The harder part is what happens after. Miners have zero reason to follow him, they keep hashing SHA256d and getting paid same as always. So he’s looking at a fork with basically no hashpower, easy to attack, chain probably crawls or stalls out the way BIP-110 already did.
And he’s doing this hours after getting pulled as BIP editor over how he pushed BIP-110 through. So the real story isn’t the algorithm. It’s whether anyone with hashpower shows up at all.
