For my first indoor grow, I built 2' cubes for pots with ~1.5' deep soil, and had plants 3'-5' tall.
You're better off growing for big plants, and pruning it (or training it sideways) to your desired size than trying to stunt the growth with a small container, or other crippling methods. If you grow in tiny pots, you'll either get plants that struggle, or a yield so low that it's not worth the cost.
I'll find some old photos of the indoor setup I had and post them here. For an indoor setup, I had large plants, but that was because the law only allowed three mature plants at a time.
