The original homeland is debated, likely to have been southern Russia.

Unclear at this remove how politically, genetically and culturally homogenous they were, but available linguistic and material evidence suggests pretty well integrated.

Although, "Daeva" went on to mean "God" in Sanskrit (Devi in modern Hindi) but "Devil" in Avestan Persian.

Religious schism at an early date? Or was the word applied to both without distinction at that time?

I don't think it was one original homeland, different people with similar cultures migrating in the same direction adopting the same language, mixing into local populations, then spreading back out again. But I ain't no expert, it sounds like you have a better idea about this than what I can remem...
