Whenever I'm having a real sh*t day, the two things that help me get my head right:
• Setting out to get one small win that has nothing to do with what i was planning to work on (change the stupid toilet paper holder that keeps getting loose and hanging down, hang the curtain rods i've been putting off for weeks, etc).
• Clean the room. Get rid of the boxes i needed to deal with forever. Take that box of random screws and bits and little tools that i didn't have a good place for and actually go through and organize them properly, throw away what doesn't fit into my system.

Inevitably ill get some sense of progress and I'll feel a little bit more capable of dealing with the forever failing or forever "next week" projects that span years and weigh on everything else i try to do. What's your process?

Sometimes those shit days are caused by clutter. I remember realizing this when I watched the minimalist documentary back in the day. I started throwing away some of my junk. Everything was simple and organized. I wasn’t holding on to clothing for a future time that likely won’t ever come. I was...

It's a cliché, but for good reason: go for a walk. Especially since my work largely consists of staring at screens all day now, it's incredibly helpful to ground myself in the real world again, hear the crunch of the gravel.

There's a real mechanism behind why this works. Psychologists call it the Zeigarnik Effect: unfinished tasks occupy more mental space than finished ones, and your brain keeps spending energy on them until they're done. Closing one small loop, even a toilet paper holder, actually frees up that space.

My year and a half year old always cheers me up, how can you not be happy playing with the little guy and seeing him smile and dance and love life

Man, it sounds like you have ADHD. Getting started is the hardest part sometimes because once you're doing, you get consumed by the doing. You get those little dopamine rushes & then 2hrs go by before you notice. I have a running "things I can do list" and I add stuff to guide the doing part of me...

thanks for sharing. a good sweat always changes my mood, but doesn’t necessary lead to productivity. I like the idea of little wins, that’s definitely worked for me and still does (when I remember). also feels good to do something creative and shitpost early lol
