Months ago, someone asked me to write an article. I said “sure, just let me have a word count” and never got a reply.
She’s just asked me if I was still up for writing it, and I said “yes, just let me know a word count”, and she’s replied:
I am working in pages rather than a specific word count, as this allows space for any photos / artwork that you’d like to include
Anywhere from 4 pages of a5 to 8 pages of a5 is great for an article.
And I’m like… that is incredibly, deeply unhelpful. What font size? How big are your page margins? What proportion of it should be illustrations (which you have never previously mentioned)?
I’m going to have to find a similar-page length article in a previous edition and OCR it to get a word count, aren’t I…?
