I left sdf.org because it was too slow and sometimes down. I went to mathstodon.xyz because it seemed appropriate but I admit I didn't really look very carefully. Hopefully it's well-run and backed-up...

@nprofile1q... I found the local timeline to be a great discoverability tool. But I haven't found any instance whose local timeline matches the cluster of topics around my interests of Fosstodon, a really great mix in English. Some promising EU instances have local timelines in the local country language which I don't understand.

I feel discoverability continues to be a difficulty - one tip, which is effective but labour intensive, is to dig through the profiles of people who like or boost toots which seem appealing, and follow the people who are most interesting/amusing/relevant/agreeable nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3s...
