Try looking in another app amethyst will do that sometimes. Then it's like oh once u see it in another app then amethyst will be like Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhheeey you got a new message.

I use Simplex to get around this issue because the issue is the nostr protocol.
