I personally dont run knots but to each there own, as long as they understand what they are doing. Multiple node implementation's does provide optionality, even if not properly maintained. Other chains have multiple client and bode software which provides further decentralization.

I switched to Knots a while ago but other apps have to prioritize Knots way before Start9 will make it the default

This is exactly what will happen with any prebuilt node implementation. Learn to run your preferred software yourself locally.
