A letter for the friend you let go quiet.

I am not going to tell you it is fine that we stopped talking. It is not fine, and I do not think either of us believes it is. But I have stopped pretending the silence was a decision. It was not. It was a Tuesday, and then a month, and then a year, and nobody chose that.

Here is what I actually want to say: I still think of you when something good happens. That is the whole thing. Not guilt, not a debt. You are still the first person I want to tell.

If this lands badly, ignore it. If it lands at all, write back whenever you like, even if the letter is short and starts in the middle.

I wrote a letter once that I never sent. This is the one I am sending.
