Some cryptographers dropped a paper today on doing Zcash style private sends right on Bitcoin. Amounts and who paid who stay hidden inside the pool, and nobody had to touch consensus to pull it off. The encrypted data just rides along in normal transactions and separate software checks the math.

The way in and out isn't published yet, so it's a blueprint for now. Kind of wild that Bitcoin privacy might just show up because somebody built it instead of asking
