Tell me your secrets. Lol.
preparedness!
for the toddler, we bring his utensils, food scissors, small plate and straw cup so it's easy to prep food for him from what we order. Of course, snacks to tide him over.
for the twins, we bring our own high chairs that strap to chairs cuz I don't expect restaurants to have three high chairs available ever. Since they're starting solids, I bring their food, snacks and milk. Toys to keep them entertained.
They will usually be able to sit from us being seated to ordering food to eating. If it takes a long time for food to be served, taro will go with Dad for a walk around outside and I'll text him once food is up and taro's portion is plated. We pick places that we know have consistent, fast service.
Now that the twins can use straw cups, I alternate feeding them solids and giving them their cups for sips of milk. While they drink, I eat. Not that different from being at home, really. When they get fussy about being in the same place for too long, I'll sit one on my lap, then alternate. When they're finally fed up with it all, I pack them up into the stroller and have Dad handle the check and clean up while I walk outside.
Restaurants are loud, visually stimulating and socially stimulating which can be a lot for young babies. They're pretty good about it now, but in the early days, I had to really be tuned to their moods and remedy the overstimulation (most of the time by going outside) It really is a case of the more you do it, the better it gets.
If you have any specific questions, let me know. I'm more than happy to spill the "secrets" ๐
