I love Jitsi, as a self-hosted video conferencing service. I have run it for years.

But... I use it for perhaps a couple of hours every few weeks.

It runs on a relatively low powered box, but still, it is a powered box, and for 99% of the time, that power is just wasted.

So I am going to experiment switching it off, and saving that energy.

If someone wants a video chat, I'm happy to offer XMPP or Signal.

Or does it not respond well to not being on all the time? I'm contemplating a self-hosted option ...
