There’s one thing I don’t quite understand about #Nostr. Everyone talks about “privacy,” but at the same time, every zap is public — even Monero zaps. Shouldn’t that be something between me and the person I’m sending the zap to? To me, that’s what “private” means.

And it’s been like this from the very beginning. Only a handful of apps even give you the option to hide it.

Am I missing something here?

Yes. It's completely half-baked and there is no metadata privacy. I think that's because it has been designed as a client-server system rather than a distributed peer to peer system.

Pretty sure all the clients that support Monero xaps aren't visible on Nostr (only exception is Poster Place). Basically just normal Monero payments.

It's for sending someone money for a specific thing they said that you like and want other people to know you also appreciate it to a significant degree. Monero zaps aren't currently public, but there should be a simple way to pubicly Monero zap a post (in a non custodial way) in the nostr spec.
