It fragments the information so the spammers have to put it back together so the spam isn't shown otherwise

So you have two possible chains where either a set of data is computationally trivial to reconstruct or only slightly less trivial to reconstruct. In both cases, the end user experience is to use a software layer abstraction to reconstruct. There is no practical, material difference.
