It's elegant not hard to understand. I am wondering how the score is weighted though.

It's just a log scale to slightly discount the support from accounts that follow a ton of people. Basically if you have 5 small accounts following one person that that's a stronger signal than if that same person is followed by accounts that follow everyone.
