The algo is there to spur emotion and engagement. Its amazing how much I see on the feed there that after 5 seconds of searching you realize is fake news. So much garbage. Sadly its still a bad habit I have, heading to Twitter for news.

Sometimes when I’m scrolling on Damus and I pause to look at a video or picture, I still think, “oh shit, I can’t stop on this or the algorithm will think I want to see more of this”. Then i remember, there is no algorithm and I get back to doom scrolling in peace. It’s really quite lovely...

What's sad is the effect it has on otherwise rational, smart and polite people. Ragebaiting is like a virus that infects the minds of such people and keeps them engaged and trapped somehow.

I had a hard time to describe how I feel about Twitter. It was negative, but still I was missing the words. I think it goes in the same direction as you described. Also, it is really strange. Here on Nostr, I actually am not afraid of being banned because of what I want to say.

At this point, if you go to twitter, you are mad. Just in the more british sense of the word.
