Something has been bothering me lately.

Mastodon is praised for genuine human interaction, mutual respect, and the lack of engagement-driven algorithms.

Yet trending posts often still feel confrontational. People may ask for justified respect while resorting to generalizations, hostility, or contempt.

Anger at mistreatment is understandable, but respect cannot apply only to people we agree with. A healthier network also depends on how we choose to speak to one another.
