American drivers will see a car in the right lane and find themselves overcome with an immense urge to go the identical speed next to them in the left lane. Biologists have been puzzled for decades by this curious formation known as “clotting”, often comparing it to the magnetic migratory pull of birds, sea turtles, and monarch butterflies. Researchers even documented the phenomenon in some areas across 3 or 4 lanes of highway at a time, showing the marvelous strength of nature beyond modern comprehension. These formations can establish miles of trailing traffic, at times to the peril of some of the weaker drivers in the rear facing emergencies, bowel movements, and even death. “As hard as it looks, please note the public should not interfere in the wild under any circumstances”, warns Dr. Prius, a lead researcher at the University of Maryland—home of the Terrapins. “If they die, they die.”
