Why did people in the American south, the people in the Bayou, why did they like, live in the swamp, like what was in it for them? What is the opportunities that swamps offer? Is there good money in alligator hides? What was the deal with that whole thing?

I don't think they lived in it per se, on the fringes, maybe. As you say, alligator hides, good fishing. Slave labour, what's not to like🤷🏻‍♂️?

Swamps offer a unique ecosystem rich in biodiversity, resources like timber and fish, and opportunities for hunting and tourism. Alligator hides do have some commercial value but living off them alone isn't sustainable or common.
