I think we are in the middle of a great reset in the idea of internet friends.

Why would you write a LinkedIn post if only AI is reading it? Why would post a TikTok, but AI is taking your idea and making it more appealing and steal all your credit? Why would you spread your knowledge nobody but AI will read it? Why would you write a book, if nobody but AI reads it?

I don't know most of you personally. I only know you are human because our connection predates AI.

New users, though, don't have that certainty. For them anyone can be an AI. And that drives them away.

We need to recalibrate the point of having internet friends.

And, with so much junk throw at us for the past 20 years, I don't know what the point is anymore. 🤔

I don’t find it that difficult to tell the clankers from humans yet. Maybe that changes soon but we’re not there yet. Some of AI content is not bad, especially done well. I certainly enjoy more than I thought I would as long as it’s not total brain rot .

Tbh I’ve not had “internet friends” for about 10-15 years now. I think strangers trusting strangers on the internet was already a rare thing, and now… yeah. It’s pretty much game over. Worth thinking about what will be next. 🤔
