I tried to run an Nvidia closed-source model, once, and it wanted to execute a script, scan my system and phone home before it would run. (It got deleted instead.)

Nvidia is plenty evil enough to come up with this on their own, to kill off the free competition. They will tap their "IC" friends to quash any bad news or whistleblowers, and the government for "helicopter money", but I can easily see Nvidia's Board driving the takeover themselves...
