Just tried using a gift card at a gas station 2x and it simply won’t work. Submit a request, so we’ll see what happens.
Very annoying, but like you say, definitely won’t rely on it in the futur...
One thing you might want to try is a screenshot of the QR code on your phone, a physically printed version, and also try the barcode version. 
But the one Petro Canada card that I got, it was completely missing four numbers required on the code to be recognized as a paid negotiable instrument.
I did a back-and-forth with bitrefill on email and two separate calls to Petro Canada customer service to discover that.  so they re-issued the card and it worked.
The worst part is you don’t want to wait until you are actually on the road and needing fuel to find out that it doesn’t work, so a guy ends up trying to make a simple in-store purchase to make sure it works before you leave.  It’s far from perfect right now. On the plus side, bitrefills customer service is pretty decent. But I sure have a hard time parting with sats for a half baked product.
