Now that Star Trek is once again dead I'm noodling on writing a scifi story in my own universe to talk about how everything has become a prison. Corporate offices have gates and security guards you have to flash a badge at. Schools have metal detectors, see through backpacks, and no visitors midday, totally closed campus. You can't walk into a grocery store too fast or else the robot gate will beep and scream at you and lock to try to keep you out. And that's just the visible stuff.
