Sorry for the silence these past days.
I was in the field, serving alongside a mission team, moving between a few different villages, barely any signal most of the time.
We treated close to a thousand patients over the past week.
I'll share more about that soon.
But right now, something more urgent.
I flew home yesterday evening.
This morning, a massive earthquake hit NTT.
Magnitude 7.7, followed by strong aftershocks.
The same region I was standing in less than a day ago. I was just there.
The parish that served as our base, the villages we visited around it, even a remote village up in the mountains we reached just days ago, all in the path of this.
Broken statues, shattered windows, furniture toppled. Homes collapsed in more than one place.
I've heard hospitals there are already overwhelmed.
Just days ago, that same area was calm, warm, alive with a local festival.
People smiling, going about their lives.
Now many of them are dealing with damage, fear, uncertainty about what comes next.
I don't know how to process this fully yet.
Relief that I made it home safely.
Grief for the people I just shared meals and conversations with.
Both at once, sitting heavy in the same chest.
I'm looking into the best ways to actually help from here.
Will share if I find something solid.
For now, just this.
Praying for everyone still there. ๐๐
