Who can recommend me an open source calendar app that will sync calendar events with next cloud? Fossify calendar does not seem to do that for me.

Fossify does with CalDAV and DAVx5 ;)

Yep +1 for DAVx5 been using it for 5 years or so with gOS and Nextcloud.

you can use the nextcloud app and davx5 app and fossify calendar will work. if you are using a VPN you will likely need to turn it off for the sync to work.
