If I'm remembering right, the circular words represent meaning across time. A human mind is like a rupture in space time - we're emerging from something nonmaterial, but fooling ourselves into thinking things are happening right now, that there's an occurrence discreet from the flow, a happen distinct from the ing. If the aliens are consciously aware of the flow, then it makes sense to depict human as a blobby rupture on a circle.
