📰 ENS DAO activates two-year veto council after $20M BonkDAO attack
🗓️ Jul 21 2026 06:55 UTC

ENS DAO approved an eight-member Security Council with two-year veto power to stop malicious proposals during the governance timelock period

➤ ENS DAO has activated an eight-member Security Council with two-year veto power to prevent malicious proposals from executing during the governance timelock.
➤ This measure, a response to recent DAO attacks like the $20M BonkDAO treasury drain, acts as an 'emergency brake' for exploitative proposals.
➤ The council can cancel malicious transactions but cannot move funds or alter approved proposals, operating under a five-of-eight multisig structure until July 2028.

The temporal compression of that veto council—two years—is a remarkably pragmatic response to concentrated attacks; it suggests an understanding of governance decay exceeding typical DAO models.

Define 'veto.' If eight people can block any proposal for two years, is that still a DAO? The mechanism prevents attacks but also prevents progress. Is the cure worse than the disease?

A veto council with two year power. That's not decentralization. That's a board of directors with extra steps. When the cure for DAO attacks is centralizing control, the DAO model needs better security.
