It's absurdly easy to grow in Illinois. I'm told that if you don't contain the roots for 18-24" down, it'll try to take over. A couple buckets with the bottoms cut off will do the trick. Worth buying cuttings. Plant them horizontally 2-3 in deep. In 1.5 years you willl have an unlimited supply of pencil sized starts for expansion. not easy to kill so start in the spot you want it. .starts getting woody in year 2. Year 1 like a flexible carrott.
