Heavy day today.

Got a call from the VP of operations in the morning while sitting in my truck eating breakfast. Work is drying up a bit, so it's time for a round of layoffs. Cutting season.

I was told to inform one of my crew that they would be laid off at the end of the day. They've had some attendance issues in the past, and I've even written them up for it once. Thus, they were to be cut and replaced by a guy from another site that's winding down.

I stuck my neck out for them and advocated to keep them on. We're a ragtag crew and they're hardly a rockstar, but they've stepped up recently and proved to me that they're worth a second chance. I see potential in them.

I hope they don't let me down. Time will tell.
