Enjoyed your note and couldn’t agree more the machine is scrambling. Spending millions to take out one Shahed drone.

Not sure in practice but on paper at scale the laser beam defense systems from Elbit or others could help in defense against the asymmetric warfare. Upfront costs $80-300m but each shot is <$5. That being said these devices can’t be everywhere at all times but could be placed at important defense and civilian infrastructure. In the interim Ukraine drone interceptors are similar cost to the Iranian Shahed drones.

The likely outcome is continue to prop up the existing MIC while additionally funding next gen defense manufacturers. Just have to point to the Trump-class Golden Fleet announcement.

Bigger budgets = more taxes.

The cat is out of the bag that the equation has inverted with the navy, at least as of right now, has not been able to control the Strait.

Agaist drones net guns, directed EMP and a different scale of what military ships use to take out incoming missiles seem more effective and cheaper.

Or maybe the development of aerial drone combat. Anti-drone drones.
