The link being from HTTP upload is a technicality - httpupload is only the part between you and your server -, any link using the XEP-0066 "oob" tagging is used for embedded viewing these days when the receiving client enables it (there are SFS and SIMS as well for better media embeddings these days, but 0066 still work)
