At a time when having ample energy for these purposes is a priority, it seems we should be encouraging energy diversity instead of regressing to a fossil-fuel only paradigm that literally makes no sense. We need fossil fuels, but we also need nuclear, wind, solar, hydroelectric, and thermal sources. And hopefully hydrogen and nuclear fusion in the future.
