My husband and I got like a third of the way into Shogan since it was so well-rated, but we struggled with it a bit. There were a handful of frustrating things that seemed unrealistic. I keep meaning to get back into it.

You should read Clavell's books. The Hong Kong ones are kinda linked together. My face was definitely King Rat (which they did make a movie of back in 1965 that was well regarded). Hopefully they redo more of his books into quality films/series.

Watching it with my daughter now. I’m surprised by how good it still is. I always figured I liked it so much because wasn’t a lot of good series back then. But it holds up pretty well.
