Around the same age I got really curious about religion too. My mom gave me the idiots guide to the world religions and honestly, it was a fantastic run down without the violence and verbosity that most religious texts have.

I guess it would depend on what her reading and comprehension level is like. NIV or NLT might be more suitable English. ESV is a bit more advanced English.
