In the very beginning, Facebook had one interesting feature: reconnecting with old pals. I remember finding people I hadn’t heard about for ages, probably because they built their database around academic networks. Then the corporate, money-making vibe took over, and we ended up doing social networking through advertising-driven ranking.

I wish the circles-based idea from Google+ had taken off. Social networking always reminds me of the Six Degrees of Separation from the Stanley Milgram small-world experiment, and even that UK-era “find Satoshi” argument game from around 2006 https://findsatoshi.com/
