Was it really? After 1980 under Thatcher, the UK decided to abandon manufacturing altogether and just create a housing pnzi scheme to replace it and call it "capitalism".

And yes, I think that housing move by Thatcher was like a little crack pipe for the generation that benefited from buying property on the cheap but we now have a massively distorted housing market which is shite.

The idea you could get a better rate on a buy to let mortgage than if you wanted a house to buy and live in I find deeply troubling.
