Jesus breathed on the disciples and said they could forgive sins. My question for protestants: why would Jesus, as he was starting his church, give a handful of his followers the unthinkable, unprecedented ability to forgive sins, and now... nobody in your church does this?

The catholic (and orthodox) church is the only church that actually does this thing that Jesus said we could do, with apostolic authority going all the way back to those same men Jesus breathed on.

It seems like one of those things that just gets ignored... the bible says that certain men could forgive sins. That seems like a big deal to me. So can your church forgive sins?

The standard answer is "we are already forgiven"... but Jesus was walking on the Earth and still wanted his followers to do the forgiving. IDK. Seems like a big part of the puzzle is missing if you're protestant.
