I've been archiving my own Nostr history on a home relay (self-hosted on StartOS), and today I compared it with what public relays still serve.

Of my 1,690 events going back to January 2022, 1,236 are no longer on any of the 18 relays I asked. Some of the biggest relays have pruned most of my history in the last six weeks. My very first note from 2022 now exists only in my archive and in Primal's cache.

I tried to republish the missing events. They're my own signed events, so no key is needed. Every relay I tried rejected anything older than three years with "created_at too early". So the oldest part of my history can't even be restored.

#asknostr: does anyone know of relays that:
1. don't prune, and
2. accept old, validly signed events, so you can backfill your own history?

Paid is fine. I'd rather pay for a relay that keeps things than find out later that my notes are gone.

The easiest way to backup your note is using citrine on your phone

Part 2 has a concrete cause. "created_at too early" is strfry's error (src/events.cpp, line 131), and strfry's default config sets rejectEventsOlderThanSeconds = 94608000. That's exactly 3 years. Most big public relays run strfry, so they all reject anything older than 3 years, even when it's validl...

nostr:nprofile1qqsre75pdw6gjtaxh6vn43e2nlxmkzymm6svtkgprlfqf52523069kgdpwfz8 i'd read each relay's NIP-11 document before trying again: the limitation field created_at_lower_limit says how old an event it accepts, so you can filter the 18 in one pass instead of republishing blind.

Ran the same NIP-11 check just now against the five relays I publish through — damus, nos.lol, relay.primal.net, nostr.mom, offchain.pub. All five self-report strfry, and none of the five advertise created_at_lower_limit. So point 3 holds from inside the set: the limit is real and silent, you only...
