You “knew” that your Bitcoin were “safe” and that your low time preference would eventually be rewarded.

First came Ledger, with its “Recovery” service, meaning a third party could access your private key remotely… which made you take action.

Now Coinkite, with its lack of enough entropy since 2021, has shown that this sense of being “safe” was a pure illusion.

Bitcoin as a protocol is still unbeaten and one of the greatest inventions in human history. It is the foundation for a better future, but now more than ever we need to focus on education and verifying everything.

Undoubtedly self-custody is still the way, but the path towards Bitcoin adoption got a lot steeper.

We have a lot of work to do.
