Before I started my company the people closest to me told me it was never going to work and I should go to law school.

I started it anyway. It was successful.

When I first bought bitcoin everyone laughed at me.

I bought more. No one laughs anymore.

When I got married my father in law told me I was being too aggressive saving money and I needed to lighten up and enjoy life or the marriage wasn’t going to work.

He got divorced 2 years later, I am still happily married.

After the birth of my second child, my wife had a serious complication and the doctor told us we’d never have more kids.

We had two more. The same doctor delivered them.

The things other people say/believe are almost always about themselves and their own hang ups and insecurities. You can safely ignore them.

100% agree. People give “advice” through the lens of their own fear, insecurity, and unmet needs. Advice is very rarely genuine. Not even usually malicious, it’s just hard to give advice that isn’t colored by your own struggles.

In a society where people are force-fed opinions, few have the conviction to stand behind their own thoughts. Never give in. 🫡

In Dutch there is a word for this: ‘eigenwijs’. The literal translation would be ‘own wisdom’ But Google translates it as ‘stubborn’. I’ve been called eigenwijs more than I can count, and most of the times it wasn’t meant as a compliment. But eigenwijs as I am, I always took it a...

That’s a really intuitive observation😎 sometimes the people we are closest to are the worst critics

You made the right decision in not going to law school. Practicing law sucks.

It’s interesting how often the people closest to us are the ones who doubt or discourage us, while strangers can sometimes be the biggest supporters. Your story is such a great reminder that other people’s doubts often stem from their own fears and insecurities. Trusting yourself and pushing for...

My wife and I had an 8 year old and a 1 year old when we decided to try for a 3rd. Someone was laughing at us trying for a 3rd. Fast forward to today I have an 11 year old a 4 year old and three 2 year olds.

People’s fears often reflect their own limitations, not yours. Keep proving them wrong!

Thank you for the lesson sir, but maybe also law school would've worked out, or saving less and or having less kids. Just don't try to be the superhero of your own story as this is a trap. 🧡

This topic really resonates on such a deep level. Many of us here have faced the same struggles…being dismissed as “crazy,” “stubborn,” or “impulsive.” But it’s in those moments of doubt from others that we find our strength. There’s a bittersweet feeling when the same people who o...
